"Well played tequila, well played."
Secrets Silversands feels like our very own private secret. Located just a short 20 minute ride south of Cancun, Mexico (map) it is definitely easy to get to from the airport. Sadly we arrived just as a tropical storm was brewing off the coast, so we encountered a few days of pouring rain but a whole lot of great top-shelf tequila! The staff at the resort went up and above to keep the restless resort-bound guests happy with indoor activities and kept the drinks flowing at all of the bars. We were lacking our sand, sun and fun for many days, so we opted to try as many restaurants and food options available. Of course we began each day with Mimosas (ok several) at breakfast, because after all.. it was 5 o'clock somewhere!
~ The Resort ~
HIS VIEW - Great tropical vibe with a bar generally within 50 yards of your current location.
HER VIEW - One of the older Secrets resorts, it still looks great for it's age. It's on the smaller size so no need to walk far for anything! Staff made this resort for me..they were so fun and attentive. You never had to look far for a bar whether you were inside, outside or at the beach area.
~ The Room ~
HIS VIEW - Large room with a bed that really served us well. Great TV channel selection ( if you get what I’m throwing down). Centrally located to school and shopping, or at least bars and dining.
HER VIEW - The room had clean lines with a modern feel and it definitely had some sex appeal - especially the double jetted tub. The wall mirrior between the bathroom and bed area slides back and forth so as to open up or close off the jetted tub. With the rain and cooler temperatures, this tub got used sometimes twice per day! Our room had a view of the resort's over-water bungalows..very quiet, set off from the main pools and I loved the stocked fridge with mini-Coronoa bottles of beer.
~ The Grounds ~
HIS VIEW - There are lots of illuminated mulit-colored angel looking characters! Multiple pools with swim up bar and Jersey meat-heads. Activities staff is great, even when the weather isn’t. Very open.
HER VIEW - Ok to expand on His comment.. they had art-work throughout the grounds that lit up at night, (aka the woman sculpture looked like an angle to him), but they were very creative and helped light the pathways. The grounds were always being taken care of, and the view from the hot-tub to the beach.... wow! Just look at the photo below. Plenty of pools at each building, so when the main pool got crowded we just made our way to another secluded pool - of course close to the bar! The beach is pretty rocky, so don't expect to perfect your ocean swimming, but the beach area and pier/gazebo were beautiful.
~ The Food~
HIS VIEW - Spectacular. Steak every night at a different location. Lots of variety. The pool side lunch buffet was fantastic.
HER VIEW - Because of the rainy days, we ate (and drank) alot! Fabulous food, endless choices, very fresh and flavorful, and best wait staff around! Our favorite restaurants on property were El Patio Mexican, Ratatouille (delicious desserts), and Portofino had the best prepared steaks we have had in a very long time. The Seaside Grill is outdoor located above the main pool and has a beautiful dinner ambiance and menu. Our favorite fun meal was the pool side BBQ lunch with fresh tacos, mango salsa-see pics below.
~ The Drinks~
HIS VIEW - Lots. Service was more than adequate. Nothing outstanding at bars, but had good variety and were always punctual (that is a big word for me).
HER VIEW - I love Secrets resorts because they have all top-self liquors, so I was able to indulge with my favorite Blanco Tequila whenever I wanted. Morning mimosas with breakfast were fabulous!
